Healing damaged brain tissue
“I grew up with trauma. My dad was abusive, and our home was surrounded by drugs and gang violence. But it wasn’t all bad—my dad did love us. He just didn’t know how to be a father, and it took my mom five years to finally leave him.
Fast forward 27 years—I was 31 when I joined the Army. During a training accident, I suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI) that nearly killed me. The combination of that injury, the anger I carried from childhood, and the mental stress of military service led to severe anxiety and periods of depression. I began lashing out at my family. I was losing control, barely able to cope. A lifetime of suppressing pain and emotion was bubbling over.
What kept me grounded was my faith—I’m a child of the Most High God. He’s brought incredible people into our lives, and one of the most impactful has been the Edwards family. Ali shared something she had discovered: neurofeedback—a way to retrain your brain and restore healthy mental patterns. With her background in psychology and seeing results in her own family, she trained as a technician so she could bring this healing tool to our community.
As soon as I returned from deployment, I began neurofeedback sessions with Heart Matters—and it has transformed my life. I'm making clearer decisions, breaking out of anxiety spirals, and sleeping better. I used to struggle to articulate my thoughts, constantly feeling like my mind would drive into a fog and lose its way. Now, I can express myself without having to fight through that mental haze.
The neurofeedback training I received from Heart Matters has truly been life-saving. I believe everyone should experience this. We’ve all faced trauma, pain, or hardship—no one is untouched. People should be lining up for this kind of help. It works, and it’s a gift from God through people like Ali and Mike who are passionate about restoring others”.
